Biography

Z-Slim was born Ozzie Cox on March 24th, 1984 to parents of Bahamian descent in Rockledge, Florida. Growing up in a broken home, he found an outlet by spending his youth playing sports and writing rhymes, dreaming of one day picking a different path for himself. By the time
he was 19, he was already selling his own mix tapes and playing shows in his hometown. After getting the attention of his uncle, James Cox, they started Flo-Ridaz Incorporated, a company designed to help promote Z-Slim and he was soon playing shows from Atlanta to Miami, and the Bahamas, opening for artists such as Lil Wayne, T.I., Juvenile, Rick Ross and Yung Joc.

In 2008, after recording 7 mix tapes and playing dozens of shows around the southeast, Z-Slim was ready to take his music to the next level. While
recording at Full Sail University, he met Ridiculous Nick, a seasoned producer working on his degree in Recording Arts, and after a couple months, they
decided to team up and create Z-Slim's first full length LP, a journey through space entitled "Flostronomy".

Soon they were in the studio, crafting a new style of music that sounded like funk, rap, R&B, rock and jazz in outer space behind talented lyrics that promote positivity, peace and triumphant messages with a mellow, soulful lyrical style. After a couple of months in the studio, the album was almost done and it was time to start a band. By now, Nick had started to meet some very talented musicians and soon assembled a 6 piece live band to rival all other
hip-hop groups out there.

Named the Flo Boys, this new band was formed with a mission to conquer Florida with live hip-hop. Made up of Will "Chess Pains" Busby on electric guitar, Jonathan "Sir Faita Flo" Faita on electric bass, Jose "JC Flo" Carbonell on Drums, and Nick "Ridiculous Nick" Palmer on keys, the Flo Boys have been hard at work perfecting songs and promoting their new vibe with high hopes for the future.

All rules and prizing are subject to be updated and may change throughout the year. Please check back here periodically.

*Selection: The cut-off date for contest entry and online votes is one weeks (7 days) prior to the Local Battle, unless specially-noted for that individual area. So for example, if your Local Battle is on a Saturday, the deadline to submit is one Saturday prior, as the clock hits midnight at the end of that night. For the online metrics, current site 'plays' are weighted heavier, and 'ratings' are used as a secondary metric. All plays and ratings are counted at the submission deadline, unless artists are notified of a voting extension in their region. All votes are subject to qualification and review, to ensure legitimate voting. For the judge selections, music industry professionals along with the show producers choose two or more artists to compete in each Local Battle, for a total of three (or four) artists competing at each Local Battle. Selected finalists will be announced at least 3 days prior to the Local Battle.
